Josh Harris Wants To Bring Something New To Washington

The Washington Commanders have a growing sense of excitement surrounding them. The team finally got rid of possibly the worst owner in the history of the NFL, Dan Snyder, a month ago, and new owner Josh Harris wants to give his fans something to look forward to.

On Monday night, during the Commanders’ preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, Harris jumped on the broadcast with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. He made it clear that the future includes a much better stadium than the hellhole that is FedEx Field.

FedEx Field ranks dead last in any stadium ranking you can find online. In The Athletic‘s rankings, the stadium secured a dominant last-place finish; 27 ballots had FedEx Field in the bottom five and 25 had FedEx Field ranked as the NFL’s worst stadium.

Joe Buck mentioned he and Aikman drove by RFK Stadium prior to Monday’s game. Harris noted RFK was an “inhospitable place for (Aikman) to come” as a visiting team, while it was “very hospitable for our fans, it was loud and noisy.”

The atmosphere during the game was amazing. Harris even mentioned that it felt like it was the regular season already. The new owner is looking for a place that will bring “that kind of impact, that kind of excitement” that the team’s former home created.

“We’ve got to get back to an exciting place to play,” Harris said.

Very true. The Commanders legged out an exciting 29-28 win under the excellence of Sam Howell and Eric Bieniemy and the stadium erupted.

There’s no doubt that fans in Washington are loyal and passionate, they just need a team that can compete at a higher level. A new or renovated stadium wouldn’t hurt either.
