Jordan Yamamoto Making Case For Mets Starting Rotation

Jordan Yamamoto so far in Spring Training is displaying pure excellence. For the New York Mets, their starting rotation is absolutely stacked from top to bottom, but Jordan himself is turning heads. The elusive spot in the rotation will join the ranks with starters such as ace Jacob deGrom, and Marcus Stroman. With Carlos Carrasco still somewhat sidelined due to a sore right elbow, Yamamoto potentially has big shoes to fill. After all, the team poised to easily grab the National League East.

During last Saturday’s game against the Nationals, Yamamoto continued his decency. He had a shaky first inning allowing a run but ended up throwing two and a third scoreless innings after that. The Mets lost the game, but Yamamoto’s earned run average remained low. His Spring Training ERA is at 1.08 in 8.1 innings through three games.

“I’m just having conviction, That’s the main thing that we were working on that we’ve been talking about, just conviction with all my pitches, being able to throw it in any count, just getting ahead of hitters and making them get in swing mode. Everything and anything that makes me who I am is what I did tonight.” -Jordan Yamamoto

Yamamoto spent the first two seasons of his career as a Miami Marlin. He is trying to further prove himself and achieve distance from his career regular-season ERA of 6.20. New York obviously sees something in him.

It may be difficult for Yamamoto once Carlos Carrasco comes back into the rotation. This won’t, however, stop Jordan from trying. If anything, New York could assign him to occasional fifth starter duties or in long relief. Most importantly, Yamamoto will attempt to leave a decent impression on the Mets. So even if he is optioned to the minors, the Mets know they have a scary pitcher in development. Yamamoto would be ready to go when the time comes.
