At UFC 276, Israel Adesanya defeated Jared Cannonier in a one-sided decision. Many people found this fight boring, including fighters and fans. Meanwhile, a top middleweight contender arose when Alex Pereira knocked out Sean Strickland in the first round. This started a string of Twitter beef between UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Let’s take a look at the beef and what each fighter is talking about.
Jon Jones posted these two tweets after UFC 276. For context, Adesanya had painted fingernails at UFC 276, and he made an Else reference in his Octagon interview. Needless to say, Jones is confident that Pereira can beat Adesanya. However, Ngannou did not appreciate Jones’ criticism of the middleweight champ.
Ngannou is not wrong. Adesanya has defended his middleweight champion five times since Jones last fought. But, in typical Jones fashion, he had to respond.
Now, there is not really much to analyze here. Basically, Jones just points to his resume to hide behind any of Ngannou’s criticism. However, Ngannou took one last jab before their interaction ended.
Now, there is a chance we see Ngannou and Jones locked in a cage with one another. Jones has announced that he is moving up to heavyweight while Ngannou has been open about having lofty goals.
A potential fight between Jones and Ngannou is a fan’s dream. One of the greatest fighters of all time taking on one of the scariest fighters of all time. It is a great matchup. However, we may have to wait. Ngannou is currently recovering from knee surgery that repaired a torn ACL and injured MCL. Meanwhile, Dana White seems interested in booking Jones against Stipe Miocic while Ngannou recovers.
