Jon Anik: The voice of the UFC

When you turn on any major UFC pay-per-view card one thing’s for certain, you will hear the voice of Jon Anik.

Anik has become the voice of the UFC over the last decade and fortunately so for us the viewers as Anik has been great in the booth for the UFC since first starting in 2011.

The UFC pay-per-view commentary team is one of the best in all of sports with former UFC Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and one of the most knowledgeable people in fighting Joe Rogan teaming up alongside Anik. While this commentary team may have the least hair they still manage to bring even more energy to fight nights.

It is impressive how well-composed Anik stays throughout major fights, yet is still able to let the emotions out when needed following a big knockout. Some of the reactions from Anik, Cormier, and Rogan have become synonymous with the UFC.

The two that stand out are their reactions to Rose Namajunas becoming UFC strawweight champion by knocking out Zhang Weili and to the biggest upset in UFC history when Julianna Peña submitted Amanda Nunes to become the UFC women’s bantamweight champion.

Prior to joining the UFC as a commentator Jon Anik worked as an anchor for ESPN and specialized in MMA. The Boston native rose to stardom in 2017 when he took over play-by-play for the UFC following Mike Goldberg moving to Bellator.

This year is the last of Anik’s current UFC contract that he signed in 2018. He could see a very nice payday to stay as the UFC’s main play-by-play commentator as he made $500,000 in 2021 according to Media Referee.

It is very rare that there will be a UFC pay-per-view event that goes without Anik and on Saturday, March 5th UFC 272 takes place and Anik will be on the call once again as Colby Covington takes on his teammate turned archenemy Jorge Masvidal.

In the lead-up to this fight, Anik predicted in an interview with MMA Fighting that “whoever loses this fight is probably never gonna fight for the belt again.”

This is very possible considering both recently fought for the belt and lost to Kamaru Usman, but no matter who comes out on top it will be worth watching just to hear Anik’s commentary.
