The Torts quote machine is so back. The Flyers got off to a hot start but have since cooled off losing four straight. John Tortorella has coached his way towards a 7-6-3 record but things are way, way worse than that mark truly shows.
Tuesday’s game against Columbus ended in an epic overtime defeat. During the game, Torts showed off a hell of a shiner that apparently came via being kicked in the face by a horse.
“It was a horse-kicking incident,” ESPN analyst and former Flyers goalie Brian Boucher said on the broadcast, per phillyhockeynow.com. “…He said he was awfully lucky — it could have been a lot worse.”
Don’t worry, it gets better. During the game, Torts gave us the best line from a coach mid-game all year.
“We suck,” he said. “We haven’t forechecked, we haven’t done anything as of right now.”
I don’t have a clear direction for this blog. Maybe it should teach us all a lesson about being grateful. At least you didn’t get kicked in the face by a horse. Well, chances are that you didn’t and for that be grateful! Be grateful you don’t have to coach the Flyers which feels impossible getting that team to content given the roster in place. That’s a Chuck Fletcher story but the point still stands.
I’ve come around to the thought that the league is just better with John Tortorella in it. Regardless of what you think about him as a coach (he’s a little too defensive minded for my taste) these quotes filled with Torts passion is great for the league. We need more characters, not less in the sport of hockey.
