John Emery Jr is still kicking somehow. The now former LSU running back will play his 7th college football season this upcoming year, and now we know where he’s going to be doing it. The former five-star prospect during the 2019 cycle will head to UTSA for his final collegiate season.
On3’s Pete Nakos was the first to report the news:
Okay, two big angles I want to talk about.
A: Apparently, Brian Kelly was surprised that Emery was even going to continue playing? I’m not entirely sure what to think about that just yet, but something to store away in our minds for later. Kelly seemed pretty set with his running backs already on the roster. My guess is Caden Durham really becomes a dude for them this year.
B: I guess UTSA is a hot stop for running backs right now. They also landed A’Marion Peterson from USC. I’m not sure what’s going on with UTSA right now, but those are two pretty big names that seem out of character for them to land. Maybe I’m speaking out of pocket, but that sure does reek of someone stepping up to the plate in NIL-wise. I’m not sure who that person might be, but credit to whoever they are.
Believe it or not, Emery was featured in the Stock Report notes this past year. He actually looked pretty good against USC prior to going down with another injury. Hopefully, he can have a solid year. Injuries and bad grades have mostly derailed him to this point.
