John Beilein May Step Down As Cavaliers Coach

Well, I can’t say I’m surprised. There was already controversy with John Beilein calling the Cavaliers players thugs. Or even before that, when players were rebelling against John Beilein’s coaching style. It just felt like a ticking time bomb that Beilein would not be the Cavs coach for long.

John Beilein Coaching Record This Year

He hasn’t had much success as the Cavs coach this season. Up until the All-Star break, he only has 14 wins. He already has 40 losses in his first season. Given that it is his first NBA season, a losing record is expected. However, one must think that there would be more success on this Cavs team. One must also think that someone’s first season in the NBA would be filled with much less controversy. Those controversies including the ones mentioned earlier: accidentally calling the players “thugs” instead of slugs or players apparently rebelling against his coaching style.

This Cavaliers team isn’t the worst team in the NBA in terms of talent. However, as the league standings are right now, they have the 2nd worst record in the NBA. The Cavaliers are only ahead of the Warriors. Maybe the acquisition of Andre Drummond will help with that. But one has to wonder, this late in the season, why not just tank for the rest of the year? Andre Drummond is a good piece for the future but the idea is to get the best draft pick they can with this draft class not being as talent-driven as others. Beilein was in a bad position, to begin with. But it wasn’t the worst situation, there is good talent on this team and it just doesn’t seem it has reached its full potential.

One thing is for sure, John Beilein won’t be a part of the long term plans for Cavaliers. Both parties probably deserve a fresh start. I wouldn’t be surprised if John Beilein goes back to coach college ball. It’s probably what is best for him at this point.
