The Buffalo Bills have signed free-agent EDGE rusher Joey Bosa to a one-year, $12.6 million deal, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter first reported Tuesday.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the other teams in the Bosa sweepstakes were the San Francisco 49ers, who his brother Nick Bosa plays for, and the Miami Dolphins.
Bosa’s addition to Buffalo comes two days after the organization parted ways with eight-time pro-bowler Von Miller, who saved the Bills $8.4 million in space. Bosa is over six years younger than Miller with far more upside.
The 6-foot-5 EDGE rusher was the league’s rookie of the year in 2016 and made five Pro Bowls from 2017-24. His biggest struggle has been staying on the field, missing time over the last three seasons due to injury.
In 2024, he tallied 22 combined tackles with five sacks and two forced fumbles in 14 games. He’s played less than 950 snaps over the last three seasons combined after registering at least 830 snaps in three of his previous five seasons.
Bosa joins a pass rush room led by Ed Oliver and Greg Rousseau. Buffalo still needs to address its interior defensive line and its secondary, but acquiring the former top-3 pick on a prove-it deal is a good upside swing. They need players who can consistently disrupt the pocket, and when Bosa’s on the field, he’s more than capable of being that force. That’s been a big if, rather, but his upside is greater than Miller’s at this stage of their career.
