Joe Harris traded to the Detroit Pistons
After spending most of his career with the Brooklyn Nets, Joe Harris is leaving New York.
Brooklyn’s sharpshooting wing is headed to the Detroit Pistons along with two future second-round picks to Detroit, as first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski. The Nets are sending the Pistons a 2027 second-round pick via Dallas and 2029 second-round pick via the Bucks. The Nets will create a $19.9 million traded player exception (TPE) to make more moves this offseason.
Harris has been the Nets’ knockdown shooter for the past seven years now. Now, Harris is headed to a very young Pistons squad surrounded by guards and passers.
Jaden Ivey and Cade Cunningham highlight the Pistons’ young core. Cunningham and Ivey have been in need of a consistent shooter on the wing like Harris, and now they have one.
Last season, Harris had one of his weakest seasons in the league, notching around eight points per game. Though his scoring average dipped, Harris’ good shooting throughout his career did not waver. The former Virginia Cavalier shot around 46% from the field and an impressive 43% from beyond the arc.
In the 2022-23 season, Harris played the third-most games in a season during his career (74), but started only 33 of those games. Towards the end of the season, Harris’ minutes slowly diminished, dropping to the third-lowest of his career as he saw around 21 minutes per night. This is likely due to the roster changes Brooklyn made during the NBA trade deadline, adding forwards Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson to its roster.
With the departure of Harris, Brooklyn will look to make more moves when free agency officially opens up.
