Joe Douglas Responds To Mecole Hardman’s Comments
New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas responded to former Jets wide receiver Mecole Hardman’s comments about the teams offense.
Hardman said that the team’s offensive staff was “not established” and that the team seemed to surround around Aaron Rodgers before he suffered his Achilles tear.
“I just feel like it’s not an established coaching staff there,” Hardman said. “You just got a new coaching staff that came in, and there’s no standard there. Everybody do what they want to do. Granted, the defense has more of a stabilized standard with the coaching staff on that side. … But the offense is just like, ‘We’ll just figure it out. It’s Aaron’s show. Let Aaron do what Aaron does.’ Then, when Aaron goes down, it’s like we don’t know what to do.“
Douglas responded to Hardman’s comments during the NFL Scouting Combine.
“Not to get into any specifics on what Mecole said, I’ll just say, look, we were excited to sign Mecole, he was excited to obviously join our team,” Douglas said. “The situation is Xavier Gipson really came on for us this year, & he did an outstanding job for us, so ultimately we made the decision to move on from Mecole, but our process of adding Mecole, he was excited to be here, & it just didn’t work out, & a lot of that has to do with Xavier.”
When asked by reporters about the exact comments Hardman made, Douglas said: “I’ll just say those are comments that definitely resonated with us.”
Jets punter Thomas Morstead also responded to Hardman’s comment on X, formerly Twitter.
It was Hardman who had the last laugh, as he won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs last seasons, receiving the game winning touchdown in overtime. The Jets have yet to feature in a playoff game since 2010.
