The Internship Program Continues To Make Me Lose Hope In Humanity

We’re halfway through the first full week of the Spring 2024 Internship program. In the most predictable turn of events ever, five interns out of 12 total hires have already quit or been fired. We haven’t even made it to Friday yet.

I think I mentioned this several times in other shows but I was actually worried I hired too many video editors. That I wouldn’t have enough work for them. I shouldn’t have even been concerned because the “problem” took care of itself.

Kelby Kelp, Collin Slatton, Evelyn Rosas, Tyler Damsma, and Brian Estrada were all gone by the first week. Three of them couldn’t even make it to the point where they turned their video intro in for the Mentorship program. Isn’t that a problem? Isn’t that a little pathetic?

I haven’t done the full math on this but it feels like we have around a 50% pass. Except last semester was about a 20% pass rate and this class is trending in that direction. I guess the only positive is that we haven’t had someone attack me on my personal phone number yet in 2024 (that can be seen on Cheese).

You know what’s even worse? I’ve been even stricter with the hiring process. Lesson learned from the Julia situation. I don’t even give social media interns opportunities anymore because I already know they can’t do the job. Why the hell even bother? As a business owner, isn’t it a little insane that I’m better off not giving opportunities because I already know they will fail?

The longer the internship process goes on the more I question if it’s worth the headache. This younger generation coming up is just filled with so many worthless individuals. They claim they’re passionate about sports but then have no idea what they signed up for and aren’t willing to do what it takes to survive. It’s the same story over and over and over again.

It should also be noted that it’s incredibly easy to pass this internship. I pass people that I shouldn’t even pass. It’s just so bad right now that I can’t even get them to make it through the first week.

Have you seen what’s going down at Sports Illustrated? I’m the only person preparing people for the sports media industry. You can call me the bad guy but it’s not an accident that everyone is being laid off within the industry.

Maybe it’s time that someone else takes over this department. Frankly, these people are just not worth my time until they prove otherwise. Chad doesn’t even bother learning people’s names. That tells you everything you need to know. I’m running out of answers.

You can blame me or we can recognize that maybe society is just filled with worthless humans. This internship program just doesn’t feel worth my time and it’s a shame I even feel like that.
