JK Dobbins can’t catch a break, man. The former Ohio State product feels like he’s been hurt more than he’s been healthy during his four-year NFL career. Dobbins is now out of the season again while playing on the final year of his rookie contract. The Ravens starting running back has suffered a torn Achilles in the 2023-24 NFL Season opener against the Texans.
John Harbaugh confirmed the news after the game.
“Just kind of crestfallen for him,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “We will put our arms around him, and he’ll get into rehab, and he will be back [next season]. But yeah, it’s really hard for him.”
Dobbins isn’t the only injury that happened during the game. Baltimore suffered a flurry of bad news during the win against Houston. Marcus Williams, left tackle Ronnie Stanley, and center Tyler Linderbaum all left the game and did not return. The early returns on Williams don’t look good as it could be a torn pec.
There is no doubt that this injury hurts Dobbins’ chances of landing a contract extension. This is something that was debated during the offseason. Dobbins even sat out during the early portion of camp trying to get a deal done. He’s now missed 43 of 67 career games (64%). Dobbins’ season will end with after rushing for 22 yards on eight carries. Dobbins also notched two receptions for 15 yards prior to the injury.
Justice Hill and Gus Edwards will carry the load the rest of the way for Baltimore. Rookie out of East Carolina (whom I’m high on) Keaton Mitchell is on short term IR and could make a difference later in the season.
