Enjoy the last of JJ Watt while you still can. After these last two games for the Cardinals, Watt is set to announce his retirement. We have already seen Watt play his last home game ever in Arizona with the Cards. The sure fire Hall of Famer announced his retirement via Twitter.
Watt, 33, unfortunately never played for a real contender during his NFL career. It would’ve been nice to see him suit up for the Steelers to pair all three Watt brothers on the same time. A man can dream. Then again, it’s not like the Steelers are contenders either.
Watt is also under contract with Arizona but may have wound up being a cap casualty. Now, I guess we’ll never know.
Either way, a hell of a career for Watt. The former 11th overall pick in 2011 became the single greatest player in Houston Texans history. Watt played ten years in Houston and his 101 sacks are a franchise record. Watt also leads Houston’s franchise in forced fumbles (25).
The injuries have caught up to Watt and he’s spent a lot of time on IR. It’s not really a surprise that he’s calling it a career. Still, a dominate player when healthy but his body has sure taken it’s fair share of punishment.
Watt will go into the Hall of Fame and it’s well deserved. One of the best defensive players ever in this modern era of football.
