AEW Dynamite Preview (12/28/22): An Impossible Comeback?

AEW Dynamite is a special edition show called “New Year’s Smash.” They like to do these special edition shows towards the end of the year when there is an extended gap between pay-per-views. The show is set to feature some great matches, plus a title will be on the line. Also, this will be the last Dynamite of 2022, so it is likely going to be a special one.

With a lot on the line in the matches, let’s preview what to expect heading into AEW Dynamite.

Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale vs. Tay Melo and Anna Jay A.S

Ruby Soho is seeking revenge against the woman who put her on the shelf, Tay Melo.

Melo injured Soho a few months ago and Soho even had to get surgery on her face. But recently, Soho returned and attacked Melo. The former got her revenge a few weeks ago by beating Melo on AEW Winter Is Coming. But wherever Melo is, Anna Jay A.S is by her side, so Soho found her own partner in Willow Nightingale.

Nightingale is a new signee for AEW and has captivated wrestling fans every time she wrestles — she even holds a victory over Anna Jay A.S about a month ago.

These four women have had their issues with each other as of late, so it’s no surprise this match is taking place. Anna Jay A.S holds a victory over Soho in their only singles match, so this is simply a grudge match where all competitors just want to inflict pain on each other.

Bryan Danielson vs. Ethan Page

Bryan Danielson made his return to AEW recently after staying with William Regal in the hospital. MJF brutally attacked Regal two weeks after he helped him win the AEW World Championship.

Danielson returned at AEW Winter is Coming following MJF’s match against Ricky Starks. Danielson made his intentions very clear that night. Following that, we heard from Danielson for the first time, but he was interrupted by Ethan Page. Page claimed he should have the next shot at the title, so Danielson challenged him to a fight.

So here we are, Danielson is taking out his anger on Page on AEW Dynamite.

Claudio Castagnoli and Jon Moxley vs. Top Flight

Blackpool Combat Club members, Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli, are set to take on the young team of Top Flight.

Top Flight are two of the youngest members on the AEW roster, but you would never tell. Darius and Dante Martin wrestle years ahead of their age. Recently, they won the $300,000 battle royal and outlasted the Blackpool Combat Club.

Meanwhile, Castagnoli is coming off of a huge win reclaiming his ROH World Championship, and Moxley is currently feuding with Hangman Page. Castagnoli and Moxley are some of the best wrestlers on the planet, so this is going to prove to be a monumental test for Top Flight.

This very easily can change the landscape of Top flight’s careers if they can pull off the upset and win on AEW Dynamite.

TNT Championship Match

Wardlow vs. Samoa Joe (c)

Samoa Joe has been causing havoc since he became the TNT Champion at Full Gear. He defeated Powerhouse Hobbs and Wardlow to win his first title in AEW, but since then, Wardlow has been chasing Joe, wanting an opportunity to win his title back.

But Joe hasn’t granted it to him. Joe has successfully defended his title against AR Fox, Darby Allin, and Juice Robinson. So Wardlow now has an opportunity to win back his TNT championship from Samoa Joe.

Will Joe prove he is still the true king of television by retaining his title on AEW Dynamite?

Falls Count Anywhere Match

The Elite (2) vs. Death Triangle (3)

The Elite have been trying to win back their Trios Championships since they got suspended at All Out. The Elite had to relinquish their newly won titles following that altercation, so Death Triangle went on the win the titles and they haven’t let go since.

Death Triangle beat the Elite at Full Gear for the titles, but shortly after, Tony Khan announced it was going to be a best-of-seven series. Death Triangle currently holds a 3-2 lead over The Elite, who were down 3-1 and are trying to make an impossible comeback to regain their titles.

The sixth match will be a Falls Count Anywhere match. After Death Triangle used a ring bell hammer in all of their wins, Kenny Omega challenged them to a No DQ match for the fifth match. Shortly after that, Khan announced that the sixth match would be a Falls Count Anywhere match and the seventh match will be an Escalara De La Muerte match.

Death Triangle needs to win one more match to retain their titles, while the Elite must win this match to force a seventh match. Who will come out on top on AEW Dynamite?
