Doc Rivers may have been the Clippers coach while JJ Redick was there for four years. But it’s clear now that the gloves are off, and Redick isn’t pulling any punches.
The Bucks started the season going 30-13 before they shocked the NBA world by firing head coach Adrian Griffin and then giving the job to Doc Rivers. Who immediately led the team to a 3-7 record heading into the All-Star Break.
For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why the Bucks did this and felt that every team in the East became better because of it. I guess the Bucks didn’t realize this but it looks like they soon will.
But if they need a little more help, have them just ask JJ Redick. He took some time on his show today to absolutely scorched earth on his former coach.
Redick hits the nail right on the head with this. Doc never wants to take accountability and always seems to have an excuse. We saw it with the Clippers, I saw it firsthand with my Sixers, and we are already seeing it with the Bucks.
Yes, it’s difficult to take over a team in the middle of the year; nobody is going to say it isn’t. But if you are the hall of fame coach you say are, it shouldn’t really be a problem then.
Also, trying to throw your players under the bus is just bush league. Like, you can’t just come out and take some accountability for the team’s poor play? But no, instead, Doc Rivers is going to make excuses and blame the players until the Bucks eventually realize the mistake they made.
It’s becoming a pattern for Doc Rivers to take over a team ripe for a championship run only to underachieve every year. Maybe this year with Giannis is different. But it’s not looking like that as of now.
The Bucks will still end up making a playoff run no doubt. But will Doc Rivers actually be able to get over that hump once again? My money is on no.
