Alright, stop laughing. I, too, thought this was a joke at first, but it’s actually true that the University of Oklahoma has hired Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy to become their general manager for football, per a press release by the school.
It’s honestly a miracle that Nagy landed a job of this caliber or a big-time football job in general. He interviewed for the Jets’ general manager job in the past, which is hilarious in its own right, but taking over the Oklahoma football program is hysterical in its own right.
Why is it funny that Jim Nagy landed the job as GM for Oklahoma football? Did we forget the scumbag thing he did right before this year’s Senior Bowl? Badmouthing the Shrine Bowl in the manner in which he did should have cost him his job, instead it got him a promotion to the big leagues. This new wave of GM roles for colleges is weird in itself, but if someone like Nagy can get a job like this, it really means that anyone can.
In the press release, the university applauds him for how he ran the Senior Bowl and all the connections he made over his tenure as director. In all actuality, he has done a horrific job running the show, and the rapid decline really started two years ago. Maybe he already had one foot out the door, that’s why he stopped putting in as much effort. Who knows. We never will. But whoever fills the role of director I guarantee will run that operation worlds better than Nagy did. Spoiler alert, we at Vendetta know the perfect guy.
One loser taking over a loser program, what could go wrong? This surely will be a turnaround, success story next season, right? Oklahoma, with a less-than-stellar head coach and a quarterback who is kind of cheeks, now has Jim Nagy to help turn the tides of the operation. Let’s circle back this time next year when Oklahoma once again fails to meet expectations and turns in another stinker of a year.
