Don’t bank on seeing Anthony Richardson again this year. The former Florida product injured his shoulder two weeks ago and it sure sounds like it’s going to cost him the rest of the year. The play that I’m sharing can be seen here when Richardson went down.
Colts owner Jim Irsay has a way with words. He’s not really one to ever sugarcoat something. The Colts owner cut right to the chase and indicated that Richardson will probably miss the remainder of his rookie season.
“It’s not definite, but (he) probably misses this year, and we’re going to have to contend with that,” Irsay said.
“There’s debate going, but it’s probably going to lead toward surgery in the next week or so,” Irsay added. “We’re just trying to figure out exactly how and when and what we want to do and what Anthony wants to do.”
Richardson, 21, will conclude his rookie campaign with 577 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception on 59.5%. He also added four rushing touchdowns. More than anything, the guy needs to take better care of himself heading into next year. Richardson didn’t just get hurt two weeks ago. He got hurt in basically every other start this year. The agenda this offseason for Richardson needs to be learning how to slide!
Gardner Minshew is expected to take the reigns for the rest of the year. Maybe this will prove to be a blessing in disguise. Richardson will get time to watch and the Colts will likely end up with a better draft pick now. Remember when Joe Burrow got hurt his rookie year and Cincinnati ended up with Ja’Marr Chase? That’s the hope anyway if you’re a Colts fan.
