Jim Harbaugh is playing chess, not checkers. It appears that the former head coach at Michigan understands NFL Draft politics. He’s just also going to prop up his old quarterback JJ McCarthy in one fell swoop (is that still an acceptable phrase or is that only reserved for boomers).
“Arm talent, athleticism, ‘it’ factor, winning with numbing repetition — don’t be surprised if, when he goes to, he’s the number one quarterback off the board,” Harbaugh started.
“That’s my prediction right now. When people get a load of J.J., how he can throw the ball, how he spins it, his athleticism, his intelligence, talk about ‘it’ factor, he’s got it. The competitiveness he has, and they get around him and start digging in and they start talking to him, yeah, that’s an early prediction for me.”
So smart. Just so smart. This is what people don’t understand. If a team takes McCarthy before the Chargers are on the clock that just means it’s one more good player for LA to pick from. Justin Herbert is obviously locked in as a starter.
Don’t forget, Baltimore is a notorious trade-down team in the draft. Harbaugh just hired Joe Hortiz from the Ravens organization. Don’t be surprised if the Chargers trade down and still get their target.
This is the ultimate Trey move. Well, Trey move if I ran one of these teams. Keep spreading the lies, Jim! The media doesn’t know any better.
Did this help McCarthy’s stock? Maybe, maybe not. However, we do know the media only values winning and doesn’t care about context. After winning a National Title that part sells itself. Plus, the Michigan quarterback is one of the younger players at the position available.
