The Los Angeles Chargers selected Ladd McConkey in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. We’re only a handful of games into McConkey’s rookie season but it doesn’t appear too early to say that the Bolts got their money’s worth with this pick.
Thus far on the season, McConkey leads the Chargers in receptions (30), receiving yards (376), and receiving touchdowns (4). Jim Harbaugh had some serious praise for the former Georgia product and compares him to Steve Smith.
“It was great to have the explosive plays,” Harbaugh said. “Ladd’s jumps off the tape. You know, I’m watching the film of Ladd. He reminds me of Steve Smith. In the way that when he goes up for one of those contested balls, it’s like they both had this ability and skill to like almost look one way and then catch it just a few feet the other way. It’s really subtle. It’s really good. Saw him do it again in this game and he’s done it in prior games. I thought I had noticed that. I was trying to put my finger on, ‘what is he doing?’. And that’s what it reminded me of, Steve Smith…it’s pretty cool.”
Peep the embed ^. Trey was a big time believer in McConkey during the pre-draft process too. If you’re someone who is surprised by the success that McConkey is having, it’s because you didn’t do your homework. What McConkey did at the Senior Bowl was unbelievable and everyone should have had him on their radar from that moment on.
