The Jets were going to waive Denzel Mims if they didn’t find a trade partner for the Baylor product. It turns out that they got a late round pick swap instead. Mims will be sent to Detroit in exchange for a late round swap that will likely amount to nothing.
“The New York Jets have agreed to trade wide receiver Denzel Mims to the Detroit Lions, a source confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday night.”
“The Lions also will receive a 2025 seventh-round pick in the deal, while the Jets get a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick, according to the source.”
I said a lot of what I wanted to say in the Mims post from yesterday. You can either click the embed above or this link right here. It was a travesty that guy ever got picked in the second round. Mims was always a mediocre talent that had more athletic talent than actual football talent. If you knew how to scout, you saw it coming a mile away. That’s not even including the weird stuff he was saying before the draft.
Mims also doesn’t play special teams which killed his value. If you’re going to be the 5th wide receiver on the depth chart and you don’t play special teams, you don’t belong on a roster. We’ll see if Mims makes the Lions roster but given the depth in Detroit, it seems like he has a chance to battle with Josh Reynolds for that third WR job.
