Jets Cut 2019 Third Round Pick Jachai Polite

Jachai Polite was considered a potential first round pick at the University of Florida. Then Polite had a rough combine and fell to the third round. Who would have thought that Polite’s fall wasn’t over quite yet? Just months after the Jets picked Polite in the 2019 NFL Draft, New York is releasing him. Unbelievable turn of events.

Manish Mehta of Manish Mehta of the Daily News first reported the news:

For whatever reason, the Jets let Mike MacCagnon draft and then fired him. New General Manager Joe Douglas didn’t waste any time and cut Polite. This is kind of unacceptable. Polite can’t be that bad? New York will be on the hook for the $1.1 million signing bonus if no one claims him. I can’t imagine that he goes unclaimed.

Polite is a player who was really productive at Florida. He just finished the 2018 season with 11 sacks in the SEC. That’s not easy to do. I don’t understand this. The Jets have zero edge rushers. Polite just got cut. Brandon Copeland just got suspended for PED’s. Who’s rushing the passer for this team? Harvey Langi? Tarrell Basham? Jordan Jenkins? This is going to be the Jets undoing in 2019. They don’t have any reliable edge rushers.

The Jets draft class is looking rough in a hurry. New York already didn’t have a 2nd round pick because of the Sam Darnold trade up. Now the 3rd round pick got flushed down the toilet. Quinnen Williams is a great player but it’s looking like a one man draft class. Make no mistake about it, this is the first major move of the Joe Douglas era.
