Jesse Marsch Appointed Canadian National Team Head Coach
The Canadian National Team has announced that they have appointed former Premier League manager Jesse Marsch as their newest head coach.
“It is an absolute honour to represent and lead the Canadian Men’s National Team in our preparation for a home World Cup. The combination of the new leadership inside of Canada Soccer coupled with the potential of this dynamic player pool has inspired me, and I am ready and eager to take on this massive responsibility,” Jesse Marsch wrote in a press statement.
“My excitement and anticipation to get started are immense. One of my main goals will be to help unite the soccer community in Canada to support our efforts to be successful on and off the pitch. All In for 2026!”
Marsch, 50, brings a ton of European manager experience to the Canadian Team. Having coached Leeds United in the Premier League, an assistant coach at Red Bull Leipzig in Germany and RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The contract for Marsch’s tenure with Canada will end after the 2026 World Cup, according to the press release.
In his time managing clubs in Europe, Marsch won the Austrian League twice and the Austrian Cup twice with Salzburg.
Marsch last coached Premier League side Leeds United, but was let go at the end of the season after a disappointing season. Marsch also coached in the MLS before going to coach in Europe.
The American will start coaching the Canadian National Team with just over a month before the start of the 2024 Copa America. Canada has been placed in group A, alongside 2022 World Cup winners Argentina, Peru, and Chile.
