The Cowboys figured out a way to extend Dak Prescott (link) and CeeDee Lamb (link) but haven’t done so yet with star pass rusher Micah Parsons. The former Penn State product’s contract runs out after the 2025-26 NFL Season.
Cap space is going to be tight and Parsons will command a record-breaking contract. There have been some rumblings of a trade in the rumor mill but who knows how legit they really are.
Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones said the following during a radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
“That’s never been uttered in this organization that we don’t have a future with Micah Parsons,” Jones said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.com.
Viewers can choose to believe me or not here. I’m not a Cowboys fan for the record. I just have a hard time believing the Cowboys won’t get an extension done here. One thing fans can’t forget about here is the no-state tax part of the equation. Pro Sports teams have that working in their favor being in Texas. When you’re talking about contracts the size of the one Parsons is going to get, it’s hard to beat that ace in the hole factor.
This is also me guessing… you never truly know what Jerry Jones is cooking. My guess is Brandin Cooks and Zack Martin are gone after the season in order to open up cap space. If you’re a Cowboys fan sweating out the Parsons rumors, you can probably relax a bit.
Be more concerned about the possibility of the Cowboys taking a running back in the first round after totally ignoring the position last offseason.
