Micah Parsons: ‘Super happy’ Nick Bosa received record extension

Nick Bosa just became the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL with a 5-year, $170 million contract extension he signed Wednesday, and Dallas Cowboys EDGE rusher Micah Parsons couldn’t be happier.

Super happy for Nick Bosa, man,” Parsons said Wednesday, according to Garrett Podell of CBS Sports. “He really showed why he was the best player in the league last year. It gives you something to chase, and not in terms of his contract, but in terms of how great he was. If you study his mindset, how patient he was and how he just let the game come to him, it’s really something to look for.”

He’s right. Bosa was unbelievable last season. In 16 games, he racked up 18.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, 48 quarterback hits and forced a pair of fumbles. He won NFL Defensive Player of the Year and made First Team All-Pro.

Plus, if Parsons can keep up the production, he’s been putting out for the last two years he will undoubtedly reset the market again. He will be eligible for an extension next season and deserves all the money the Cowboys can give him.

In two years with the Cowboys, Parsons has tallied 26.5 sacks, 149 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 56 QB hits and six forced fumbles. He is a game wrecker and can play on the EDGE, the interior and even does well in coverage.

Not to mention, Parsons will always be in contention for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, which he’s expecting to fight for every year against Bosa.

He knows that I’m coming for him,” Parsons said. “He even said to my ears, like, ‘I won this year,’ and he’s like, ‘I know you’ll be coming for next year.’ I said, ‘You’re damn right.’ It’s going to be a good chase. Not only (me and Bosa), you also have (Las Vegas Raiders defensive end) Maxx Crosby, too, and those guys are all really good.”

Parsons can’t forget about star Philadelphia Eagles’ linebacker Haason Reddick, who finished 4th in DPOY voting last year.

The former No. 12 overall pick led the race for the 2022 DPOY award at the beginning of the season. However, Bosa’s exceptional performance in the latter half of the campaign turned the tables. Despite being named the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, Parsons has ended up as the runner-up for the DPOY for two straight years.

Bosa and Parsons will meet in Week 5 in an NFC Divisional Round rematch where the 49ers bested Parsons’ Cowboys.
