It’s a really deep running back draft. There are about five dudes being left behind and somebody is going to really pop from this group. Maybe more than one. Jerrion Ealy could very well be that guy who is currently being totally slept on. Here is the official Vendetta 2022 NFL Draft profile on the Ole Miss running back.
I’m not sure why so many people are totally ignoring Ealy. He’s a really good athlete which usually means something. Ealy was drafted in baseball and was a five star football recruit. We’re talking about a rare athlete and those guys are always worth a second look.
When it comes to Ealy, some would argue that he doesn’t have a lot of production. I would argue, the guy just have enough of a sample size. I still don’t know how Ealy didn’t get more touches. Especially since Snoop Conner is really an average one trick power pony. Ealy showed the most promise as a true freshman when he averaged 6.9 yards per carry in 104 attempts.
Ealy is a really elusive runner. Quicker than fast. 4.52 is good enough. Wish he was a bit bigger than 189 but he’s on the shorter side (5-foot-8). Not sure he’s going to be a broken tackle machine but does play bigger. Difference between short and small. However, can do a bit of everything. Can envision him being that hybrid receiver/running back type player. Has lined up at running back, receiver, and can return kicks as well.
I think Ealy cuts really well in space. Has some hands on him. Would he stand out more if he dominated the touches at Ole Miss? Not saying Ealy was perfect but there are a lot of encouraging signs that are hard to ignore.
When it comes to Ealy, he’s one of many that I like. The former Rebels running back is safely on the top ten list and should be worth a gamble later on in the draft.
