Jeff Ulbrich Mocks Bill Belichick On Hard Knocks

Jeff Ulbrich may have just given all of the good karma the Jets had built up after Sean Payton tried to blast them. Payton did the Jets a huge favor by giving them bulletin board material, but Jeff Ulbrich just gave it all away to the Patriots. Not surprising given what’s happened over the last 20 years, right?

One of the most underrated scenes in the first episode of Hard Knocks was when the cameras shifted over to the defensive coordinator. Ulbrich basically said Bill Belichick’s mantra of “do your job” stinks.

“It’s the mantra of our defense: Make a mother*cker earn every yard! ‘Do my Job.’ Is that good enough? Fuck no! That’s the rest of the NFL, isn’t it? ‘Do your job.’ ‘Do your Job.’ F*ck that! ‘Do your Job.’ Then now what? If we all do our job and a f*cking little bit more. That’s 22 playing.”

We already know how this is going to go. Surely this will backfire. Ulbrich, 46, really has no leg to stand on here. He’s been a defensive coordinator since 2020. The Jets haven’t made the playoffs under his watch. Look at his coaching resume. The Jets’ defense has largely been bad under his watch. Keep in mind that Robert Saleh is also a defensive mind and probably has more say in what goes on there. His defense in Atlanta during the 2020 season was trash too.

This should be a fun storyline to monitor when the Jets play the Patriots this year. Based on the way history has gone since I’ve been alive, this isn’t usually something that leans Jets.
