The Detroit Lions have shipped off cornerback Jeff Okudah for a fifth-round draft pick, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The Lions selected Okudah No. 3 overall in the 2020 NFL draft after a historic career at Ohio State.
After three years at Ohio State University, the Detroit Lions selected Okudah with the third overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. In his time at OSU, Okudah had 83 total tackles with 64 solo tackles, and three interceptions. The opposing team wouldn’t dare to throw it to Jeff’s way. Also, the Texas native never had a single penalty against him in college. Insane.
Okudah had an up and down time with Lions. Injuries and confidence slowly dwindled to his career. Okudah only played 25 total games with Detroit in the three seasons he played with the Lions. In those three seasons, he had two interceptions, 124 total tackles, including 103 solo tackles. Along with tackles and interceptions, Okudah managed to break up 10 total passes.
In 2022, Okudah’s game evolved into a whole new level, becoming a standout corner for the Lions. In the career high 15 games he played in 2022, Okudah held QBs to a 60% completion rate when he was the nearest defender. He also held QBs to an 87.6 passer rating in coverage, the best of his career.
The Falcons have spent loads of money this offseason bolstering up their defense. Some major signings include Calais Campbell of the Baltimore Ravens, Jessie Bates, and David Onyemata. Okudah becomes a part of a young, but improving Falcons defense as they look to climb their way up the NFC South.
