The Miami Marlins have struggled early in the 2023 MLB season. Jazz Chisholm, one of the team’s best players, ranted on Twitter after Miami’s 9-3 loss to the New York Mets on Friday.
“Guys it’s only game number 8 why is everyone panicking?” Chisholm said on Twitter.
Chisholm batted fourth in a new trend that Miami was trying out. It was Chisholm’s first time batting fourth this season. Instead of being frustrated with his manager privately, Chisholm decided to rant on Twitter, which is something I can’t get behind.
The user who was responding to Chisholm was referencing a weak at bat for Chishom, who bunted in a 3-1 count with two outs. I’m not sure what bunting in that situation has to do with being a cleanup hitter, but here we are.
Chisholm is indeed not a cleanup hitter. He’s not built like one either, standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 184 pounds. Things have been changing recently for Jazz, who recently moved to center field. Chisholm was back in the leadoff spot on Saturday, a spot much more fitting for his skills.
Miami is 3-5 on the season. Four of those five losses have come at the hands of the Mets, who took three out of four from Miami on Opening Weekend and won the first game of their new series. The Marlins’ two other wins were against the Minnesota Twins. The squad, like they seemingly always do, has struggled to score runs, only cashing in 18 times in eight games.
Jazz is reassuring fans that it’s still early, which is true. But the Marlins have stumbled out of the gates, especially against a team that they would like to be beating in New York. Game 40 would be much more of an indicator of how the team will be this year.
Chisholm finished his rant after being talked to by his girlfriend.
At least Chisholm is in good spirits about this. I wish he would have gone directly to his manager before he went on Twitter, but you can’t have everything. Hey, maybe he did go to manager Skip Schumaker before becoming a keyboard warrior.
In any case, Miami looks to bounce back and take the weekend series against the Mets. After New York, they’ll travel to Philadelphia and then host the Diamondbacks.
