Jaylen Waddle Signs Three Year Extension With Dolphins

Jaylen Waddle put any questions about a rookie extension to rest this morning. The Miami Dolphins speedy receiver inked a three-year extension with the Fins that totals $84.75 million. Adam Schefter confirmed the extension and the type of bracket it puts the former Alabama standout in:

Alongside All-Pro Tyreek Hill, the 25-year-old has created one of the most dangerous receiving duos in the NFL. Things are finally trending in the right direction for Miami as they went 11-6 in a competitive AFC East and just missed out on a Division crown. QB Tua Tagovailoa, who played with Waddle in college, led the league in passing yards thanks in big part to the pair of stars on the outside. Obviously, the front office’s next piece of business must be getting a deal done with Tua. However, when you can lock down two of the fastest players in football it definitely helps. Even though the cap crunch has hurt the Dolphins, their core players are still among the best in the NFL.

Wise Investment

Getting this deal done ahead of time is definitely smart. The front office could have let Waddle play out years four or five of his rookie deal without an extension. However he could’ve feasibly asked for even more money. In only three years of action the former #6 overall pick is already more than worth it. JW already has three 1000-yard seasons to his name and even led the NFL in yards per reception in 2022. They clearly have unfinished business and added to a strength with the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. on a one-year deal. Furthermore, Mike McDonald is clearly one of the brightest offensive minds around and I for one am very excited to see what he has up his sleeve in 2024.

Jaylen Waddle is one of the young stars across the NFL. After three electrifying seasons, he is getting paid handsomely to remain with the Miami Dolphins.
