Jarrett Allen Staying With Cavs and Inks Five-Year, $100 Million Deal
Center Jarrett Allen is staying with the Cleveland Cavaliers and will get a five-year, $100 million deal for his services on the interior, as first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Allen averaged 12.8 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game for the Brooklyn Nets and Cavaliers last season, respectively. Traded mid-season, the 6-11 center has started 40 out of 51 games for Cavs. He is undoubtedly the anchor of this youthful team’s interior defense and a necessary building block in the Cleveland rebuild. While the contract is certainly very hefty, it was likely required in order to keep him in garnet and gold.
The Cavs are still in rebuild mode, but a group of Allen, Collin Sexton, Isaac Okoro, and Darius Garland is one that is intriguing and promising. After adding Evan Mobley to the fold with the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft, the franchise and fans alike can hope for a season better than the dismal 22-50 record from last season. Next season, Allen will undoubtedly be put in the pick-and-roll with Sexton – the same set that dominates today’s game – but a full year of chemistry and repetition between the pair could be something fun to watch. But this Cavs team could be fun to watch in a couple of years.
