Jarren Duran is undeniably one of the best outfielders in the American League this year and the fact that he is only top-20 in All-Star voting is a blatant mistake from fans of Major League baseball.
Duran is having his best season as a Major League player. He started on this trajectory last season until injury ended his season. In 102 games in 2023, Duran had a career-high slash line of .295/.346/.482 with 8 home runs and 40 RBIs along with 24 stolen bases.
This year is the full breakout campaign. He is looking at surpassing his 2023 numbers altogether by the All-Star break. In 77 games Jarren Duran is batting .283 with 7 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and 34 RBIs. Not to mention his improved defense in the outfield Duran has come a long way from allowing inside-the-park grand slams to being one of the best defenders in the outfield this year. No matter playing center or left field he has been a top 10 defender in MLB according to Baseball Savant.
Although, Duran has always been a freak athlete, with raw potential. His offense and defense have been on full display this year. With how the Red Sox have embraced the athleticism of their young players players like Jarren Duran, Cedanne Rafeala, and David Hamilton who use their legs as weapons on both sides of the ball. While Duran may not have 30 home run potential, he is molding himself into a perfect leadoff hitter. Let Duran hit the ball into the outfield gaps and let him run. He has been leading the league in triples with 10 and counting.
All in all, Duran deserves to be an All-Star. The fact that players like Kevin Kiermaier and Evan Carter have more votes but this season have not been playing how Duran has is telling. Jarren Duran is underrated but not undeserving of an All-Star nod. Without Duran, the Red Sox could be far worse off from an around .500 record.
It is great to see Jarren Duran putting it all together, at only 27 he is playing up to his potential and can build to truly become a premier name in MLB for many years beyond 2024.
