The Los Angeles Lakers have sorted out an array of moves this offseason, most recently signing big man Christian Wood to a two-year deal. Though Wood hasn’t been the only big man outside of Vanderbilt that the Lakers have signed this offseason–inking high-flying New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes to a two-year deal. Los Angeles is going guns blazing into next season after making it to the Western Conference Finals last season.
Vanderbilt, who was acquired by the Lakers before the NBA trade deadline last season, has embraced the lights in Los Angeles, becoming one of the Lakers’ key role players in their miraculous run to the playoffs. During his time with Los Angeles, Vanderbilt became one of the Lakers’ defensive anchors.
In 26 games in Los Angeles, Vanderbilt averaged 7.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game on 52.9 percent shooting and 78.4 percent from the free-throw line.
They won 18 of their last 26 to close the regular season and won two rounds in the playoffs before being swept by the eventual NBA champion Denver Nuggets. But the light is still at the end of the tunnel for Los Angeles.
Led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis with multiple solid role players, the Lakers still have hope to end out on top of the league by the end of next season.
