After seven seasons with the Avalanche, Jared Bednar signs a three-year extension with them

Colorado’s bench boss is here to stay. After seven successful seasons with the Avalanche, head coach Jared Bednar agrees to a three-year deal with Colorado. Via Colorado Avalanche, Press Release.

Bednar has been quite the successful coach for the Avalanche in his time there. He has become the franchise’s all-time leader in wins as a coach with 281 wins. In his seven-year career with the Avalanche, Bednar has an impressive record of 281-190-52 or a .587 win percentage in 523 regular season games. Along with his wins in the regular season, Bednar has won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022. He has also become the third longest-tenured coach in the NHL. He is only behind Jon Cooper of the Lightning and Mike Sullivan of the Penguins.

In his signing announcement, Bednar received some high praise from the rest of the organization.

“On behalf of the Kroenke family and the entire organization we are thrilled to announce a long-term commitment to our head coach (Bednar),” said Avalanche President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. “Jared has done a tremendous job behind the bench and certainly deserves this extension and to continue as the leader of our team.” Via Colorado Avalanche, Press Release.

“Jared has obviously proven himself to be one of the top coaches in our business,” said Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland. “His strength as a communicator, his relationship with the players, the way he prepares each and every day is a huge reason our team has been so successful. He is an exceptional leader. We couldn’t be more excited to have him continue as our head coach.” Via Colorado Avalanche, Press Release.

Currently, the Colorado Avalanche holds a record of 41-22-6 and is third in the central division. They’re only two points back of the Minnesota Wild who have played two more games than them. Bednar will look to continue Colorado’s winning ways ahead of the Stanley Cup playoffs, which start on April 17th. The question is, can Bednar go back-to-back with this Avalanche team in the playoffs?
