The Jacksonville Jaguars have traded running back James Robinson to the New York Jets in exchange for a future draft pick, Ian Rapoport reports. This trade comes just hours after the reports broke of Jets running back Breece Hall being out for the season with a torn ACL. The trade sends Robinson to New York in exchange for what will be a future 6th-round draft pick. Adam Schefter reported that the pick could become a 5th-round pick if Robinson were to rush for 600 yards.
After what seemed like a worst-case scenario for the Jets with the Breece Hall injury, they have seemingly solved their running back problem. Robinson is a back who had a stellar rookie campaign in 2020. In that season, he rushed for 1,070 yards and 7 touchdowns. In 7 games this season, Robinson has rushed for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Robinson has not been the most efficient back this season, but that is partly due to the fact that he has split a lot of carries with running back Travis Etienne. In yesterday’s game, Robinson did not see a single carry, while Etienne was given the ball 14 times. With Robinson now in New York, he should see a heavier workload.
It seemed as though after Breece Hall’s injury the Jets’ number one back would be Michael Carter. With the addition of Robinson, that will no longer be the case. The Jets have begun the season hot at 5-2. They are hoping that with the addition of Robinson they will be able to compete for a division title. With Breece Hall recovering from a major injury, Robinson has the chance to be the Jets’ back long-term.
James Robinson undoubtedly takes away what was a big problem for the Jets. He is sure to see a heavy workload and has the potential to put up good numbers. The Jets hope that Robinson provides the spark they need to compete with teams like the Bills in the AFC East.
