It’s been a rocky road for quarterback Jameis Winston but he’s getting a second chance at life in New Orleans. After winning the job with the Saints, the former number one overall pick in 2015 has a new outlook on football. Winston has not started an NFL game since 2019 and he’s not taking anything for granted this time.
“It’s just fun,” Winston said Wednesday, via the team’s official website. “It’s a blessing. It’s a blessing to have this opportunity to lead the pack, and I’m just grateful for it. It’s been more than a year removed for me having the opportunity, and I’m not taking anything for granted. I’m just blessed, and grateful.”
Winston, 27, was able to hold off Taysom Hill for the starting job with the Saints. Despite not having a great group of wide receivers in New Orleans, there should be some optimism here with the Saints. Sean Payton is an excellent coach. Winston is probably an upgrade over what Brees had in the tank a year ago. Hell, Winston even fixed his vision with Lasik surgery!
The Saints are one of the most fascinating teams heading into 2021 because of that Winston factor. They may have lost some pieces this free agency window but overall, New Orleans has a solid roster. If Winston is taking this opportunity for real and is more careful with the football, the Saints could easily be a contender in 2021.
Some on the site have been skeptical of the Saints heading into this year but famous Jameis is ready to prove the haters wrong.
