After Tre’Davious White got a record-breaking extension a few days ago, it felt like only a matter before Jalen Ramsey got his money. Boy, did he get his money! Ramsey becomes the first cornerback ever to join the $100 million club. The Rams and their star corner have agreed to a five-year extension worth $105 million.
Adam Schefter of ESPN was the first to report the news:
Ramsey, 25, is regarded as one of if not the best cornerback football in football. The former Florida State product cashes in on $21 million per year, with $71 million guaranteed. A big-time payday for a star player.
There were some rumors that Ramsey would be hesitant to sign an extension with LA. That isn’t the case anymore. While playing for Jacksonville, Ramsey previously went on the record for not being a fan of Jared Goff. When this kind of money gets thrown your way, it’s hard to turn that down.
There are a lot of stats to back up the fact that Ramsey is a star. In 81 career games, he’s only allowed 100 yards in only six of those games. Ramsey ranks eighth in forced incompletions, which is impressive since teams don’t like throwing the ball in his direction. In his career, Ramsey has a 10-10 TD to INT ratio.
The most significant part of this story is the Rams cap space moving forward. They were projected to have around $8 million in cap space. That was before the Ramsey extension. Cooper Kupp will also be a free agent after the season. It’s going to be a challenge to keep Kupp on the roster long term.
