Jalen McMillan 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Washington has three wide receivers in the 2024 NFL Draft. The first one that we’re going to talk about is Jalen McMillan. Where does McMillan stack up in this class? Let’s go over and review his 2024 NFL Draft Profile!

For starters, we didn’t see a lot of McMillan this past year. Spent a lot of time on the shelf this year and had more favorable numbers in 2022. In 2023, McMillan notched 45 receptions for 559 yards and five touchdowns. In 2022, he had 79 receptions for 1,098 yards and nine touchdowns. Sophomore year was similar to senior year in terms of production. A non-contributor as a freshman.

Think the more concerning part is he kinda got leaped in the pecking order by Ja’Lynn Polk. We saw that play out time and time again last year. It felt like McMillan was battling uphill all year. How much of it was the injury and how much of it is that Polk is just the better player? Tough one to figure out.

The problem is I didn’t love him at the Combine. Looked like JAG. He was there. Didn’t see special. The 4.47 on the 40 is more than solid but I never see wow watching him at that event. Checks in at 6-foot-1, 197. Not sure he’s anything more than a slot guy who can bring vertical speed to the table. Speed as in fast enough, not burner.

Former four star guy. Has a baseball background, which should be viewed as a positive. Has decent length and release off the line. Hard to spot just how talented he is. Defenses focused on Rome Odunze and a lot of his success was free access. Don’t see any extra gear or juice here but think he can get the job done. Not terrible route running but could use to add muscle and power.

There are just so many names in this wide receiver class. I’d be willing to take a flier on McMillan late in the draft. Maybe 6th or 7th round to play in the slot. Hard to go any higher with the amount of questions that linger here.
