Only a few games into his New York Knicks career, OG Anunoby is already making a major impact on both ends of the ball. Anunoby’s new teammate, star guard Jalen Brunson, has become in awe of the forward’s defense.
The Toronto Raptors traded Anunoby for Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, and a Detroit Pistons second-round pick on Saturday. Not only did the trade end up snapping the Detroit Pistons’ historic 28-game losing streak, but it has also helped the Knicks get back in the win column. After acquiring the former Indiana forward, the Knicks have strung together back-to-back wins for the first time since mid-December.
OG’s defense has been on full display in a Knicks uniform through two games; he entered Friday with two steals in back-to-back games and a plus-54 plus-minus rating.
“I don’t know. The dude’s just a freak of nature,” Brunson said, according to Knicks beat writer Fred Katz of The Athletic. “I’m watching the same thing you guys are watching. Just like, “Oh, wow! Mmm. OK.’”
With Anunoby on their roster, the Knicks have done quite the job at limiting their opponents’ scoring. Anunoby and the Knicks have given up 106 and 100 points in back-to-back games. New York hasn’t held opponents under 106 points since Dec. 20 against the Brooklyn Nets.
The Knicks will look to continue their dominance with Anunoby on their roster tonight as they draw a difficult matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, a top-3 team in the Eastern Conference.
