NFL Draft Stock Report: Chick-Fil-A Peach BowlCotton Bowl

Barron, 23, was a four star prospect out of the state of Texas coming out of high school. That includes being ranked as the 10th overall corner and 20th overall player during the 2020 cycle. The redshirt senior spent all five seasons with the Longhorns.

The timeline here kinda looks like this. The first two years were mostly spent as a reserve, the next two years, he was a starter, but was mostly an honorable awards type guy player. This past year, Barron really broke out at an advanced age. 2024 was Barron’s best year and the accolades say most of it given that he was named First-team Associated Press All-American, first-team All-SEC, and won the Jim Thorpe Award.

This past year, Barron recorded 11 PBUs, five interceptions, and even a sack. He didn’t give up a single touchdown in coverage all year long and allowed a passer rating of 34.2. That also includes playing more outside corner where his snaps from the slot dropped year over year from 389 in 2023 to 122 in 2024. He’s also not really always a corner and lined up at safety at times too. A big example of that is the game against Ohio State. Texas didn’t just leave Barron on an island with Jeremiah Smith, so context needs to be added in here.

The only thing Barron did at the Combine was run. A 4.39 time is great, but he also checked in at 5-foot-11, 194, with under 30 inch arms. Every time I saw him this past year, he looked like a poor man’s Brian Branch. A nickel corner with speed who looks like more of a zone safety with his movement skills short area. The burst in play speed, I didn’t see that match his actual time.

I like him. I just wouldn’t say I love him. The stock notes are there for you at the top. You will see more why there.

I am far lower on Jahdae Barron than the consensus. I don’t hate him, but I think this idea that Barron is a super high end starter is probably wrong. I think he’s probably a third round guy for me who can help you, but isn’t anything close to someone who resembles a top end outside corner.
