Jaguars Add Arik Armstead After 49ers Release

The 49ers released Arik Armstead and it didn’t take the former Oregon product very long to find a new home. The veteran defensive tackle is signing a three year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The deal is worth a total of $51 million.

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report was the first to report the news. It’s worth noting that Florida is a tax free state so he’s going to keep all of these earnings.

Armstead, 30, fills a big need for the Jaguars. They needed interior help in the worst way. Especially someone to help Josh Allen and Travon Walker on the outside. Although, Jacksonville would be smart to kick Walker inside full time but that’s a topic for another day.

It’s also worth noting that Trent Baalke, the general manager of the Jaguars, used to be the GM in San Francisco. That was during the Jim Harbaugh and Jim Tomsula era. With that said, it’s not super surprising that Baalke pulled the trigger on the 49ers first round pick from back in 2015. Baalke drafted Armstead 17th overall that year.

Do The Jaguars Want To Re-Sign Calvin Ridley?

Last season, Armstead posted 27 tackles (four for loss), 13 QB hits, and five sacks in what was mostly an injury plagued season.

The Jags have been busy in free agency. They mostly reconfigured their wide receiver room signing Gabriel Davis and Devin Duvernay to a lesser contract. Those two are going to be asked to replace Calvin Ridley, who signed with the Titans. They also added Darnell Savage and Ronald Darby to beef up the secondary.
