Jadeveon Clowney Said He Picked The Titans Because Of Mike Vrabel
Jadeveon Clowney took a one year deal for one reason, Mike Vrabel. Clowney signed with the Titans despite serious interest from other teams. Clowney finally spoke out about why he picked Tennessee. Vrabel was by far the most significant selling point for him.
“I knew when I was with Vrabel in Houston, I was second-team All-Pro and three Pro Bowls. I said to myself, ‘I think I can do that here in this system that worked so well.’ Mike Vrabel is one of the smartest coaches I ever had,” Clowney said during his first media availability since signing with the Titans.
“He knows football and how to put guys in position to make plays. That’s what he did in Houston and when I got here. He is already lining me all over the place, and I get to keep making plays. He believes that I am a playmaker. With Mike Vrabel, I made way more plays [than] I did when I was in Seattle.”
Back in 2017, Clowney recorded 9.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hits, and 21 tackles for loss. He is right about one thing. Statistically, he’s never been better than when Vrabel was on the coaching staff in Houston. It’s also an excellent schematic fit. Clowney knows the vocabulary and shouldn’t have any problems learning the scheme.
Clowney is expected to start right away, listed as the starter over Vic Beasley. Clowney should be a significant addition to a team that got to the AFC title game just a year ago.
