Jadeveon Clowney is Mad that Myles Garrett is Better than Him

Jadeveon Clowney has never been one to mince words. With his recent comments, it looks like he will end up playing on his fifth team in six years. Preseason, Clowney was supposedly in for a big year but only ended up with two sacks. Recently, he had plenty to say about the Cleveland Browns including that he doesn’t appreciate how Myles Garrett would always get schemed up to rush against inferior linemen.

“Ninety-five percent sure I won’t be back,” Clowney said to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Thursday. “But there’s still that five percent. You never know what can happen.”

He further added, “I just feel like I need to be around somebody that believes in me and my ability. (It can’t) just be me believing in myself. I believe in myself more than anybody.”

Now, all of that is fine and it makes perfect sense. You should be employed somewhere that values your effort and skillset. The part that seems to make no sense to me is Clowney deciding to take his frustration out on Garrett, who’s once again a leading defensive player of the year candidate this season with 15 sacks.

“You’re all trying to get somebody into the Hall of Fame when all that matters is winning,” Clowney said. “Everybody got here for a reason, and we can all make plays. I know I am.”

He further added the Browns have “got their own guys, and I ain’t one of them, so it’s time for me to get my exit slip.”

Whatever an exit slip means, good for Jadeveon Clowney, I guess. He did clarify him and Myles Garrett were completely cool with each other though.

“I don’t even think (Garrett) notices,” Clowney said of the position switches. “I ain’t trying to say it’s him. I try to get along with everybody I play with. Me and him don’t have a problem. It ain’t his fault. It’s just B.S., and I don’t have time for it.”

Regardless, I think it’s still a pretty petty and silly comment to make. Obviously, a team will try and exploit another team’s weak links by using their best player. It’s simply strategy and I wouldn’t say it has anything to do with getting Garrett into the Hall of Fame. On the other hand, if Clowney truly feels like he isn’t valued in that locker room then he has every right to go and get that “exit slip.”
