The Blake Bortles era is over and big swinging Nick Foles is the new man in charge. What Jaguars team will we see in 2019? The team that went to the AFC Title game in 2017 or the team that got last place in 2018. Foles will have a lot to do with that outcome. So will the 2019 NFL Draft. What can we expect from the Jacksonville Jaguars? Let’s head inside their war room.
First Round (Pick 7) – I mocked the Jaguars to take Dwayne Haskins in a trade up last time. With Foles, that’s probably not happening. Now I think they go offensive line to protect Foles. Jawaan Taylor is a guy they can pick right in the back yard at the University of Florida. I thought he had a really nice combine and should plug right in as a starter at right tackle from the jump. Taylor and Cam Robinson creates a really nice young tackle duo.
Second Round (Pick 38) – Tom Coughlin loves defensive lineman. Call me crazy but I think Zach Allen is high on their list with this pick. I know they have a bunch of defensive linemen already but that’s his formula. Have a
Third Round (Pick 69) – Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye make a great corner tag team. BUT… adding JoeJuan Williams makes them a really great group. This Jaguars defense is already very good. Now imagine have 3 solid corners. This is the move. Trust that Foles is a big enough upgrade and get this defense back to elite level.
Third Round (Pick 99) – JJ Arcega-Whiteside almost feels like a perfect fit with Foles. It gives him that Alshon Jeffery type of guy who worked wonders with Foles in Philly. Marqise Lee, Chris Conley, and DJ Chark is not a group that inspires confidence. Let’s get a guy in there who will win routes. Arcega-Whiteside obviously isn’t the only option. There’s a ton of receivers that will be on the board with this pick.
This is a fascinating team that can go either way. Will Foles perform like a Pro Bowler or a backup? Will the defense play like a top 5 unit? Will Leonard Fournette stop being lazy or will he just keep falling over at the line of scrimmage? A lot of questions that need to be answered.
