We’re grinding our way through these 2025 NFL Draft profiles. I hope you’re enjoying them thus far. Your comments are always welcome. We’re talking about Jackson Hawes next, and I can’t imagine that this one will take very long.
I don’t want to sound overly repetitive but you’re drafting Hawes for one reason. He’s a blocking tight end and that’s it. There is basically zero pass game production here. His best year was his senior year. It consists of 16 receptions for 195 yards and zero touchdowns. Have fun evaluating all of those reps!
Hawes, 6-foot-4, 253, played three years at Yale before finishing up with the Yellow Jackets. Was recruited as a three star guy in the state of Utah. Although, I should mention he was originally recruited as an outside linebacker for defense…
I actually watched a fair amount of Georgia Tech this year. I didn’t mention him at all in the stock report notes. Hawes was at the Senior Bowl as well. Incredibly irrelevant that once again, he wasn’t worth mentioning. I do, however, have Combine notes and there’s nothing to see here. Looks fine as a blocker. Looks painful as a pass catcher.
Bad hands, 16 reps on the bench isn’t anything crazy given his skillset, and slow as dirt. A 4.82 is close to offensive line territory.
I have an undrafted grade on Jackson Hawes. It feels like Tipp Reiman all over again, who got drafted way higher than he should have. It’s one thing to be a blocking tight end. It’s another to be a blocking tight end who is a zero in the pass game. Need better from him in that area. If you want to take him in the 6th or 7th round, knock yourself out. I guess it’s better than overpaying the same prototype in free agency!

Do you plan on doing Lan Larison, Micah Bernard, or Demie Sumo-Karngbaye? Larison got a 30 visit from the Lions, so it seems like he’s generating real NFL interest. Bernard’s a little older, but had 1000 yards rushing last season plus multiple seasons of 30+ receptions. He got some interest at the Hula Bowl from teams (almost certainly undrafted, but is there something here)? The Eagles had Demie Sumo-Karngbaye on a local visit, and I remember you mentioning him in one of your stock reports.
