Jack Hughes Ruled Out For Remainder Of 2024-25 NHL Season

It might be time for Devils’ fans to panic. Jack Hughes has had chronic shoulder issues for years. Now he has another one after crashing into the boards in the game against the Golden Knights. This injury right here will force the former first overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NHL Season.

The New Jersey Devils team account announced the news:

“The New Jersey Devils provided the following medical update on center Jack Hughes, who was injured March 2, 2025, against Vegas:”

“Following a review of the imaging and subsequent conversations with Jack, his family, representatives, and the Devils’ medical and athlete care staffs, it was determined that Jack would proceed with shoulder surgery.”

“Hughes is expected to make a full recovery to be available for 2025 New Jersey Devils Training Camp.”

The Jack Hughes Contract Quickly Became A Bargain For The Devils

Hughes, 23, posted 27 goals and 43 assists in 62 games this season. It’s fairly in line with how the Devils top line center produced last year notching 27 goals and 47 assists in 62 appearances. These shoulder issues are nothing new. He’s played in 76% of New Jersey’s regular season contests since the 2020-21 season.

Who knows how the Devils will proceed at the Trade Deadline now. I can’t imagine that they are going to be serious buyers after this season-ending injury. How can you be after this news? The good news is that this Devils core is young and this won’t be the last time they gear up for a postseason run.
