Jack Conklin to miss rest of 2023 season with torn ACL

Bad news is never too far away from the Cleveland Browns huh? Less than a day after a statement 24-3 win against the division rival Cincinnati Bengals, offensive lineman Jack Conklin is confirmed to have torn his ACL, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport confirmed that it was a torn ACL Monday morning.

This is an unfortunate early blow for this Browns team to be dealing with. Conklin is a two-time All-Pro and the anchor for the Browns’ offensive line.

Part of why Deshaun Watson and the Browns offense were able to look so good was because Watson was protected. It allowed Watson to scan the field and let the routes develop, really allowing their receivers to also shine in the process.

Now it’s all up to rookie fourth-round pick Dawand Jones out of Ohio State. I don’t have too much on Jones as a player, but Trey put together a great profile on him prior to the draft. Check it out here for more info on Jones as a prospect.

In short, he is a huge tackle with limited mobility but can provide you elite protection as a run blocker. He uses his size and strength to win matchups and create running lanes, which should bode very well for Nick Chubb and this Browns offense.

Injuries always suck, but it’s an inevitable evil in the NFL. Like death and taxes, it’s not a matter of if but when. In the Browns’ case, that is right now. They just have to hope that Jones can play as advertised and fill that void as much as he can.

But I guess, for now, we can let Browns fans be a little happy. They did pull off a very impressive win against the Bengals in which they flat-out dominated from start to finish.

This injury does suck and will be felt over the course of the season. But I mean at least it happened when you were kicking your rival’s ass–which has to help just a little bit right? But jokes aside I’m hoping Jack Conklin is able to make a full/speedy recovery. Injuries really do suck man.
