It’s National Tea Day!!!

There’s not much I like about the United Kingdom or England. After all they did ‘rule’ over my motherland (Ireland) with an iron fist for 800 years until finally we got some sort of freedom in 1922 with the country split into two sections, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Then there was the Lansdowne Road incident of 1995. Unable to handle the fact that little old Ireland was beating them 1-0 their so-called fans ripped up the stadium seating and began hurling it onto the pitch. They’re nothing if not bad losers.

The only thing I’m remotely fond of would be my beloved Luton Town FC and for that, I will never apologize. They had a great Irish connection with players like Seamus Dunne, Brendan McNally, Tom Aherne and most recently Alan Sheehan all born in the Republic. Meanwhile, others have links through ancestry like Kevin Foley, Liam George, and current striker James Collins.

There’s nothing better than beating the English no matter what sport it is and any Irish fan alive will be able to tell you where they were the day Ray Houghton headed home to beat the sour-faced scum in 1988 and speak fondly of it. Kinda like how the English always go on about 1966. Annoying ain’t it lads!

We also gave them a right hiding in Rugby back in 2007 and even beat them at Cricket in 2011. I mean I hate cricket. Boring awful sport. It’s probably behind stealing cars and robbing banks as acceptable past-times back home, yet we still beat them? How bad do you have to be lads!?! They remedied this loss by doing what the English do best. They stole our players. Probably for the best as their parents had already disowned them for playing the ‘sport’ (I’m using the term sport here very loosely).

I will, however, join them today April 21st in celebrating National Tea Day. None of that ice tea crap either. A nice hot cup of Barry’s with a drop of milk and some sugar. Now I won’t tell you how to enjoy it. Some like it black. Some use sweeteners. As long as it’s hot you’re ok with me. And if you are drinking that iced malarkey have a long look in the mirror and ask yourself “what am I doing with my life?”

Go raibh míle maith agat

Oh and PS to any Brits reading… Saoirse Ronan was far better than Emma Watson in Little Women. Yeah, I said it!
