Islam Makhachev Is Next Up At 155 And Will Be A Champion

Islam Makhachev is next up at 155. Not only is he a baby Khabib, but he is arguably the best lightweight in the world right now.

Islam Makhachev vs. Thiago Moises

Islam Makhachev submitted Thiago Moises on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 31, further proving that he deserves a shot at the belt in the very near future. Moises is traditionally a great wrestler, but Makhachev made him look like a beginner. Makhachev’s wrestling is so good that I genuinely believe he could take down and submit any fighter in the division. Not only did his wrestling look as good as ever, but his striking was much improved since his last fight. In addition to his striking, his defense was unreal. It looked like every shot that was going to hit him square missed. If he can be untouchable on the feet and maintain his elite wrestling, nobody is beating him.

Why No Active Lightweight Can Beat Islam Makhachev

In short, wrestling. Makhachev’s wrestling is so good that I do not think any active lightweight contender can beat him. Charles Oliveira, the current 155 champion, might be the only one who has a shot. His striking is far superior to Makhachev’s, and he is arguably the greatest submission artist in UFC history, but I still think Makhachev finds a way to get the job done against the champion. Dustin Poirier does not have the wrestling to beat Makhachev. His striking is far better, but if he gets taken down one time the fight could very well be over. Keep an eye on Islam Makhachev because the man is the second coming of the greatest lightweight of all time. I would be shocked if he does not have the lightweight belt wrapped around his waist by this time next year.
