Is Lil Tay Dead or Alive?

Some shocking news came to light on Wednesday as it was announced that social media sensation Lil Tay, real name Claire Hope, had passed away. Her brother, 21-year-old Jason Tian, reportedly passed as well. The Lil Tay character went viral in 2018 for videos where she flexed her money and cars at just nine years old. Someone posted the following statement to her Instagram account, the first post to the account in four years:

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of our beloved Claire’s sudden and tragic passing. We have no words to express the unbearable loss and indescribable pain. This outcome was entirely unexpected, and has left us all in shock. Her brother’s passing adds an even more unimaginable depth to our grief. During this time of immense sorrow, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve this overwhelming loss, as the circumstances surrounding Claire and her brother’s passing are still under investigation. Claire will forever remain in our hearts, her absence leaving an irreplaceable void that will be felt by all who knew and loved her.”

It was extremely sad news of two young people losing their lives. However, conflicting information has thrown these reports into doubt and some believe that Claire and her brother are actually alive.

Was Lil Tay’s Death a Hoax?

For starters, neither Claire’s father nor her ex-manager have confirmed details of her death. Her father, Christopher Hope, was contacted for comment by the New York Post. Over the phone, here’s what he had to say:

“Yeah, you have the right person, but I don’t have any comment right now. I’m not able to give you any comment right now. I’m sorry — I can’t.”

Asked if anyone else could confirm his daughter’s death, Hope said,

“Um, no, not that that I’m aware of. Sorry, I can’t really comment or give you any help — I’m just going to let you go.”

Furthermore, Lil Tay’s former manager Henry Tsang did not confirm the report of her death in his own statement.

Finally, work from both The New York Post and Daily Mail revealed another interesting detail. Neither the Vancouver Police Department nor the Los Angeles Police Department have any record or report of the alleged deaths. As such, they are not investigating the matter. Starting to look sketchy, no?

Even the death announcement is under scrutiny. A Twitter user put the statement through an AI detector which returned a 100% score.

Via a GoFundMe page set up in 2021, Jason Tian accused Christopher Hope of physical and mental abuse. Here’s a really good Twitter thread that adds some other suspicious details:

Is Lil Tay dead or alive? Apparently the police don’t think so and are not currently investigating, but given the previous allegations of her father’s abuse, this is probably something they should look into ASAP. Hopefully Claire Hope and Jason Tian are alive and well.
