Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, year in and year out, has been one of the most consistent fantasy producers since breaking out in 2016. Aside from being far and away the best and most consistent tight end, he constantly was one of the top overall scorers in all of fantasy.
A big reason for that has been his ability to avoid major injuries. He’s been banged up here and there, but has never really had to miss major time, playing 15 or more games every season since 2015. He’s been extremely durable and Patrick Mahomes‘ favorite target since he first came into the league.
All of these things have allowed Kelce to be one of the most consistent options in all of fantasy football. If you had a mid to late first-round pick, you could take Kelce knowing it would be worth it in the long run. Especially with how weak of a position tight end always is.
But now in his age-34 season, it seems like father time is finally starting to catch up with him. On the most recent podcast episode of “New Heights” with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis gave some insight into his health as a whole.
“I’m just out here being old as f–k and just offing myself,” Kelce said, according to the New York Post. “Because I’m not getting tackled and getting injured. Nobody is doing this to me but me.”
This comment was about the scare Kelce had during the Chiefs’ 27-20 win over the Vikings Sunday, where he seemed to have rolled over on his ankle, forcing him to temporarily exit the game.
It became scarier when cameras showed Kelce visibly frustrated throwing his helmet on the sideline. He ultimately was fine and returned to the game, but it’s still starting to seem like these injuries are piling up for Kelce early in this season.
He missed Kansas City’s season opener after hyperextending his knee in practice the week prior, though the Chiefs tight end missed that one game while still not being 100 percent in Week 2. Now, he is dealing with this ankle issue and could miss their game against the Broncos Thursday.
Thankfully for him, none of these have been a major injury. But if these smaller nagging injuries continue, it could spell trouble for Kelce later in the year. They say father time is the only thing undefeated in sports and it has yet to be proven wrong.
It will come for Kelce in full force at some point. But for the sake of one of my fantasy teams, I hope it isn’t this year. In all honesty, I think all of this is just karma for the whole Taylor Swift situation.
I never had anything against her before this but holy shit the NFL is really milking this. Hell even Travis Kelce has come out and said the NFL has gone too far.
So really Travis Kelce just needs to dump Taylor Swift. Become the subject of her next song and go on his own little “revenge” tour. Only then will he return to his full form.
